The Upper
St'át'imc Language Culture and Education Society (USLCES) is comprised
of people of the Xwisten (Bridge River), Sekw'elw'as (Cayoose Creek),
T'ít'q'et (Lillooet), Xaxli'p (Fountain), Ts'kw'aylaxw (Pavilion),
and Tsal'álh (Seton Lake) bands. The people of the six bands speak
the Upper dialect of the St'át'imc language and reside within approximately
a thirty-mile radius of the District Municipality of Lillooet in
British Columbia. The Society has the support of the six band councils
who appoint representatives to the USLCES Board of Directors.
As a
registered charitable organization, USLCES has worked since 1991
on behalf of its First Nations communities and band councils to
enhance and maintain St'át'imcets (St'át'imc language) and other
cultural knowledge through education. Our organization has produced
a language study, dictionary, phrasebook, CDs, DVD, storybooks,
and language learning books to revitalize and preserve our language.
