Fishing is an important part of St'át'imc culture. The traditional method for salmon preservation was to cut it into narrow strips and to hang it on shaded racks to dry in the wind. With careful preparation and a dry climate the Upper St'át'imc people are able to preserve their fish without having to smoke it.

The following historic photos are of traditional fishing methods and salmon drying.
