Tim Paul

Tim PaulTim Paul is from the Hesquiat Band of the Nuu-chah-nulth West Coast people. He was born north of Tofino on Vancouver Island at Esperanza Inlet. Tim's first influence came from watching his grandmother basket weave in the Queen Charlotte Islands. His father was a good painter and his cultural and traditional influences were strong. He learned to paint when he was only ten years old. He has worked with such artists as Ron Hamilton and Calvin Hunt. Tim has produced many prints and as a talented artist he has developed his own style. He believes that it is important to touch home ground and your roots, "...if you don't, they will forget you, stay tied to your roots or you will forget, remind our children where they come from". Tim always wanted to do something different but still related to his peoples and how they do things. He is a prominent carver and has worked at the B.C. Provincial Museum.
