Robert Jackson was born on July 12, 1948 in Port Edward BC. His Gitksan name is Nagwa and he holds title of hereditary Prince in the royal family of the People of Damelahamid; the Gitksan Nation. He attended the Kitanmaax school of Northwest Coast Art at Ksan. Robert taught himself how to carve by studying and copying old pieces of Gitksan art. Much of his work, particularly his wood carvings illustrate legends of his people. These works are prized by collectors in North America, Europe and Japan. Robert us also carver of gold, silver and ivory.*
